John Swift has been an Agency Director for District 2 since 2000.  He represents Ione, Amador City, and the Camanche area.   He previously worked for P&M Cedar Products in Pioneer for thirteen years.  For eight of those years, John was the sawmill General Manager.  When the mill closed in 1999, John started Amador Forest Products, a wholesale sawmill by-product distribution business, specializing in landscape materials.  

In addition to serving as Board President this year, John is involved with Amador County and Federal water issues.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Mountain Counties Water Resource Association and served two years on the Association of California Water Agencies Finance Committee.  Outside the Agency and his business, John has been an active Rotarian since 1992. 

With Amador County family histories dating back to the 1800’s, both John and his wife Jeri have an appreciation for our communities and lifestyle.  They were married in 1986 shortly after graduating from California State University, Chico.  Their two sons, Marcus and Eric attend Amador High School and Ione Junior High.

~ I was born in Long Beach, California and raised in the hills of Topanga Canyon.  Surfing at Malibu and hunting in the hills were my pastimes.  I graduated from St. Monica's High School in Santa Monica after spending two years in Evansville, Indiana where my father was working.  I attended Loyola University where I set a world record for flunking out. I joined the U.S Marine Corps to see the world, but never left California.  I returned to school with a better attitude, and graduated from California State Los Angeles with a BS in Civil Engineering.  My first job was with the City of Los Angeles Public Works Dept.  After seven years there, I transferred to the LA Redevelopment Agency  where I worked another five years.  In 1978, I bought 50 acres in Shenandoah Valley, and moved to Amador County to be a grape grower and wine maker.  Instead, I ended up opening an engineering  business.  Former Director Les Miller was one of my partners. After ten years, I went to work for the City of Sacramento.  My last job there was working in the City Manager's office developing the North Natomas area.  I retired in 1998 but continued to work for the City part time until 2000.  Les Miller, Tom Hoover and I would joke that when Les retired from the Board, I would run for his seat.  I thought it was just a joke, but here I am one year into my second term.  Some joke!  My wife's name is Sandi (Meredith) whom many of you may remember from her days at Bank of America and Bank of Amador.  We live in the great City of Plymouth, and spend most of our time either traveling or planning our next trip.  All this traveling has led us to operating a small travel business that we do on the side.  For your first or next cruise, call Sandi!!  mooreport@comcast.net
